Hands are an element of seduction. Over time, they change and betray a person’s age. It is often the discrepancy between the hands and the face that attracts attention.

Why do I have old hands?
The causes of ageing hands are as follows:
♦ Age: any part of the body is subject to ageing.
♦ Genetics: the speed at which fat disappears from the hands and skin thinning is genetically determined.
♦ External aggressions: irritants, smoking, poor lifestyle.
♦ Intensive use: particularly related to professional activity.
♦ The sun: responsible for skin photoaging and in particular the appearance of spots and a rough appearance of the skin.
The signs of ageing hands
Over time the hands undergo the following changes:
♦ Skin thinning: the skin becomes thin, wrinkled and translucent.
♦ Fatty melting: the hands become hollow, the interdigital spaces and tendons become visible.
♦ Pigmentations: diffuse pigmentations with a dull skin appearance and localised round spots.
A hand ageing severity scale has been developed by the Merz laboratory:
♦ Stage 0: no loss of adipose tissue.
♦ Stage 1: slight loss of fatty tissue, slight visibility of veins.
♦ Stage 2: moderate loss of adipose tissue, slight visibility of veins and tendons.
♦ Stage 3: significant loss of adipose tissue, moderate visibility of veins and tendons.
♦ Stage 4: very significant loss of adipose tissue, marked visibility of veins and tendons.

Hyaluronic acid injections to beautify the hands
Two types of hyaluronic acid are used: volumisers and skin boosters.
The latter is chosen in cases of exclusive skin thinning or very wrinkled skin. If there is associated fat loss, a true volumizer such as Restylane Volyme is chosen.
I inject using a cannula, although some practitioners prefer a needle.
Rejuvenating the hands with mesopeel
The advantage of mesopeel is that it treats the superficial skin layer. The result is a glow and smoother skin.

Results and after-effects
The results of hyaluronic acid injections are immediate and last for a year.
Patients are asked to protect their hands from dusty or dirty environments (for example, use gloves when washing up or cleaning) for three days.
After the procedure, a small haematoma may appear at the cannula entry points.
The result of the mesopeel is visible a few days after the session. There is no after-effects. Patients are asked to avoid washing their hands or applying creams on the day.
